I’m Mathilde, I’m a new case worker here at Refugee Action – Colchester. I volunteered last summer while finishing my human rights masters at Essex University. I was part of the Craft & Conversation club during lockdown. I graduated from my masters in October, after finishing my dissertation on the lack of gender sensitivity in asylum claims in Europe.
When I was asked if I wanted to come back for a job, I couldn’t be happier. My first weeks have been incredibly intense, but very rewarding. I have faced many different issues and many different sensitive cases. Every day is a different challenge but I am learning so much every single day, with an amazing and supportive team of very knowledgeable and passionate people. Covid is bringing on new challenges to the work, but we are confident in delivering a safe service. I’m very passionate about advocating on behalf of clients, helping them achieve a happy life in Colchester.
